Covid Colab seeks to apply the design thinking of design students in the current and future situation caused by the COVID19 pandemic. What is the place of young people in this chaos, how can we help today and what changes will COVID bring to society? Covid Colab is an iniciative by Michala Lipkova, Vlasta Kubusova (crafting plastic! studio) and Vanda Gabrisova.
Designers can ask the right questions, look for answers and visualize solutions to new problems. Adapt and respond quickly. There was no better time to use our design thinking for the benefit of others. The pandemic has given us space and time to think about how our society works. Every good designer should be equipped with empathy and the ability to analyze the situation and find collaborators from other disciplines.
The students and professionals formed 2 groups with the goal to connect design schools in Slovakia and create space for their further cooperation, identify local problems and outline possible solutions. Groups were deditated to: Communication platform for local assistance to marginalized groups and Non-contact disinfection supporting the circular economy.
The project was an experimental form of student studio and is still ongoing. The main outcomes are the contacts and stimulation of creative processes at young Slovak design scene.
